Maine, or "Vacationland" as the highway sign used to read, has a storied history of "summer folk", people coming to the state's coast line for the warmer winter months. Having spent a few years on a small island downeast, the stark contrast of the dark and isolated winters to the bright, endless, and more populated days of summer is hard to ignore.
